Here are some additional ideas for locating summer activities for your bright kids.
Gifted/Talented Resources Fairs - These are mini-conferences providing opportunities for parents and teachers to view explore the variety of resources for gifted students available in the local area. Some conferences offer speakers in addition to exhibits. At my local conference, parents will find a table staffed by parents who homeschool their gifted students, complete with displays of the curriculum they use. These parents answer questions, help with curriculum choices, and share their experience. In attendance are also exhibitors for camps, college programs, language schools, and vendors of resources parents can purchase.
Private companies, specialty schools - Exploring local companies, which provide specialty instruction in a variety of interests, will net you additional opportunities for your student.
Specialty schools - If you are raising a child with an interest in the arts, then check local theater groups, art institutes, schools of art, schools of dance and music for their summer camp offerings. Do a search for language immersion camps, if your student has an interest in developing their abilities in a specific language. One such language camp is the Concordia Language Villages, which offer weekend a variety of immersion opportunities in various languages.
